The border experience was absolutely awful. Ill spare you the details, but it ended up taking 2 days, lawsuit threats, a sitin protest by about 60 people from 39 teams, and $17 each to get in to Mongolia. By this point Id joined up in a convoy with a few other cars from the border experience: Fellow Americans Team Flatlanders and Rubikcrew, replica watch gift Twingo Mis Dudas from Spain, and Bembeltoads from Germany. Flatlanders Andrew and Mike abandoned their Citroen Saxo in Olgii (about a days drive from the border) after basically everything broke on it. Just outside the city they had hit a rock and put a hole in their oil pan.
But a number of dogs did drop out at each check point. At Finger Lake, 26 dogs dropped, largely due to pulled musclesand sore joints. Mackey began the race with a team of 16 dogs, and hefinished with only 11. Other mushers got down to as low as eight. I had the opportunity to mush a dog team (see photo), and I can say it was one of the mostenjoyable experiences I've had with dogs. It's addictive, and mushingis physically challenging swiss replica watches when you find yourself running behind thesled, pushing to help the team conquer a snow-covered mountain trail. I ended my run with a huge envy and respect for theathletic men and women mushers and their dogs.
That was repaired easily enough, but in the garage they discovered they werent going to be able to add fluid to their leaking transmission because the squaredrive screw replica Audemars Piguet watches they needed to remove was not going to come out. By the next morning their transmission and gearbox were clearly shot, along with one wheel bearing. They dropped the car off with a rally representative there and from then on traveled with me in the newlyempty Skoda. The sled dogs of today are primarily mixed breeds known as Alaskan Huskies.
